aos-18 indigo hand tied ramie
We decided to dye this special ramie with naturally dyed indigo. It has been dipped after it was made into a ball, so please kindly note that the indigo may not have gone all the way through to the core. In some balls, the blue has travelled into the upper part of the ball, too. No one ball is exactly the same!
This ramie is made from the stalk of ramie plant. The skin of the stalk is stripped, and the fiber is split to a hair thin weight one by one into approx. 1 yard length. The ends are twisted and connected together all by hand. Extremely labor intensively created yarn. Still available from a small village in China. Makes an unusual light knitted fabric when carried 3- strands together. Great texture for weavers, basket makers, etc. Very sculptural. Dyes well. The color may change from one lot to the other. Each ball weigh slightly different. We will confirm the weight and the exact cost when you order.
If you are looking for the plain ramie, you can! Here it is. We also offer a ramie bark yarn, which has a beautiful bronzie brown color.
